Trump Scrubs Civil Rights, LGBTQ Rights, Climate Change from WhiteHouse.gov

  • "These dramatic changes to the White House website mirror the drastic and draconian cuts this president plans to make to the government. To sum it up, he’s getting rid of everything."
  • Censorship already begun.

January 26, 2017 | Watch President Donald Trump and follow his actions carefully. Even in the early days of his administration, he is telling you what he thinks about you and what he plans to do. A case in point: Those issues he removed from the White House website.

As soon as Trump took the oath of office, the WhiteHouse.gov site changed drastically. And you should be alarmed. All of a sudden, the sections devoted to civil rights, LGBTQ rights, climate change, health care and people with disabilities are gone.

If you care about these important issues, you need to go to the archived Obama White House website. There were rumors that Trump had removed certain terms such as “LGBT” and “climate change,” but in reality — even worse — those pages are gone.

New Study Found No Link Between Immigration and Increased Crime in Forty Years of Data

http://evergreenedigest.org/sites/default/files/Immigration%20Banner.jpg

  • Politicians often claim that there is a relationship between immigration patterns and increased crime. In a study done at the University at Buffalo however, no links were found between the two. According to the findings, immigration instead appears to be linked to reductions in some types of crimes instead.

The study found that immigration does not increase assaults and that serious crimes such as burglaries, larceny, robberies and murder are in fact lower in places where immigration levels are high.

Adelman feels strongly that facts are critical in the current political environment. The empirical evidence in not only this study, but other related research as well, shows little to no support for the view that more immigrants lead to increased crime.

January 26, 2017 | As the Trump administration begins to implement its immigration policy agenda, the issue of local assistance with federal immigration enforcement officials is back in the spotlight. So-called sanctuary jurisdictions are one focus of that debate. The analyses in this report provide new insights about how sanctuary counties perform across a range of social and economic indicators when compared to nonsanctuary counties.

The data are clear: Crime is statistically significantly lower in sanctuary counties compared to nonsanctuary counties. Moreover, economies are stronger in sanctuary counties—from higher median household income, less poverty, and less reliance on public assistance to higher labor force participation, higher employment-to-population ratios, and lower unemployment.

Bush once claimed to be: “a uniter, not a divider.” Only he’s been uniting many hundreds of thousands of people in protest and many millions in outrage at his bigoted, right-wing actions since taking office.

But Trump’s right-wing admirers around the country have seized on a strategy to push back against mass protest–by criminalizing it. Lawmakers in multiple states are proposing measures explicitly designed to curtail dissent.

February 13, 2017 | Kate Bubacz of Buzzfeed reports that Last week, the federal government gave final approval to the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which will run for 1,172 miles to transport crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken oilfields to Patoka, Illinois.

Hundreds of outraged protesters, primarily Lakota and Dakota from Native American reservations, assembled at the edge of the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota to voice their anger and concern.

Truthout reports that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe filed for both a permanent and preliminary injunction to block the pipeline’s construction. The case for the preliminary injunction, filed on August 4 to halt construction immediately, is set to be heard on August 24.

Another terrorist attack. Another grim tally of the dead and wounded. Another killer full of hate, from a land that breeds such men. Like millions of migrants before him, the perpetrator crossed the border unchallenged. And like others, he struck our country without warning.

Our politicians say they’ll stop these killers. They talk about building walls and vetting refugees. If we were serious, we would do it. We would seal our borders against North Carolina.

http://evergreenedigest.org/sites/default/files/PineTreeLogo%20%28Green%29.JPG The Wing-Nuts WILL Fund Their Oracles, You Can Be Sure

The right wing will fund their oracles, that's a given. We are told that we will always be without means, never never know stability, never be able to provide. One more lie, after another.

We know what to do with a budget. We know how to apply it, how to grow something of value to the community with it. Let's give them something to talk about.

Thank you all sincerely.

http://evergreenedigest.org/sites/default/files/Defend%20Civil%20Liberties%20Graphic_1.jpg February 6, 2017 | The pre-Civil War 1850s was an era when there was serious political instability and economic uncertainty partly because of the fear of a rising immigrant population without a concomitant increase in job opportunities. There was, as yet, no stable two party political system in the US. Because of these realities, a relatively new, very inexperienced political party, popularly known as the Know-Nothing Party, came out of nowhere and won 43 seats in the US Congress in the national election of 1856.

Although the existence of the new party was no secret, the names of its members were a closely kept secret. “I don’t know” was the preferred answer when the press asked about the party’s behind-closed-doors meetings and conspiratorial agendas. And so the pejorative label “know-nothing” was quickly applied to the group. It was a well-deserved title.
