My talk, on the effect of war on veterans, is here below, along with Reverend Barber’s sermon and the comments from Phyllis Bennis. Wage Peace.

May 6th, 2018 – Confronting head-on America’s war economy and militarism, the necessity of non-violent moral dissent, moral resistance and moral vision is the theme of this powerful speech delivered by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President and Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach and the Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, at the historic New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, where, during the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign, people were housed; and also where President Abraham Lincoln and his family were welcomed as pew holders on the first Sunday following Lincoln’s inauguration in March 1861.

Matthew Hoh has nearly twelve years experience with America’s wars overseas with the United States Marine Corps, Department of Defense and State Department.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have ducked any serious discussion of America’s escalating military spending, suggesting that whoever wins will be captive of President Eisenhower’s “Military-Industrial Complex,” writes Chuck Spinney.

July 2, 2016 | America is engaged in the longest and second most expensive war in its history — a small war in terms of forces deployed and op-tempos, but a war that is grinding on endlessly, without a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Contrary to the whining about constrained budgets causing readiness and modernization problems emanating from the Pentagon, all dutifully regurgitated without question by the mainstream media, defense spending in the Pentagon’s so-called Base Budget is close to an all-time high and poised to increase over the long term.

Chuck Spinney is a former military analyst for the Pentagon who was famous for the “Spinney Report,” which criticized the Pentagon’s wasteful pursuit of costly and complex weapons systems.
