September 20, 2012 |  There was a time when manufacturers of the infamous pesticide chemical DDT and the herbicide chemical weapon "Agent Orange" actually tried to claim that these two toxins were completely safe for human exposure, a contention that the world now knows is completely false. And today, these same companies are trying to claim that genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) are also safe, and that there is no need to publicly disclose their presence in the food supply.

In a new television ad, the Yes on 37 campaign to mandate GMO labeling on foods sold in California exposes the dirty history of deceptive chemical marketing in America, which includes a clip from a 1940s commercial that promotes Camel cigarettes as the cigarette of choice among doctors. The ad also shows clips from misleading commercials promoting both DDT and Agent Orange as safe household items.
