Will Your Senators Oppose the Push for War with Iran?

  • "This resolution reads like the same sheet of music that got us into the Iraq war, and could be the precursor for a war with Iran." --Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell before, during and after the 2003 U.S.invasion of Iraq.

Later this week (Feb 12-18), Senators Bob Casey (PA), Lindsey Graham (SC) and Joe Lieberman (CT) are expected to introduce a resolution that would endorse a very low threshold for war with Iran and ratchet up pressure on the administration to abandon diplomacy.

Will you ask your senators to oppose this bill that would push the U.S. away from dialogue and toward further confrontation with Iran?

Your senators are critical to stopping this bill.  Already, behind the scenes opposition from some senators has delayed this resolution's introduction, even though it has been expected for weeks.

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, who has joined me in lobby visits on the Hill this week to oppose this dangerous legislation, said that "this resolution reads like the same sheet of music that got us into the Iraq war, and could be the precursor for a war with Iran."  Col. Wilkerson should know--he served as the former Chief of Staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell before, during and after the 2003 U.S.invasion of Iraq.

Will you ask your senators to reject this dangerous legislation, which Col. Wilkerson called, "effectively, a thinly-disguised effort to bless war"?

A host of national security and arms proliferation experts warn that this resolution would put the Senate on record in support of a very low threshold for war, while endorsing an almost impossibly high threshold for diplomacy to successfully prevent war and to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.

It's a crucial time for your senators to speak out against this effort to limit diplomacy. <http://capwiz.com/fconl/issues/alert/?alertid=60524501> Direct diplomacy with Iran remains the single most effective way to prevent war and nuclear proliferation.

Thanks for all you do to prevent war with Iran.

  • Rolling Stone has now obtained a full copy of the 84-page unclassified version, which has been making the rounds within the U.S. government, including the White House. We've decided to publish it in full; it's well worth reading for yourself.
  • It is, in my estimation, one of the most significant documents published by an active-duty officer in the past ten years.
